A Beneficial Hobby and a Source of Halal Provision
Fishing is an art based on skill and mastery of various methods. It can be a good hobby with no harm, and it can also become a source of earning a lawful livelihood. Fish is nutritious, rich in vitamins and minerals, easy to raise, and does not cost much. Allah has permitted the catch of the sea and its food, and made it a mercy and provision for His servants.
THE RULING ON FISHING
Allah says:
“Lawful to you is the game of the sea and its food as provision for you and for the travelers.”
(Al-Ma’idah: 96)
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said:
“Its water is pure, and its dead is lawful.”

Nutritional benefits
Fish is one of the best foods, as it contains important nutrients that contribute to good health.
Economic benefits
It can be a source of lawful income for those who fish or trade in fish.
Psychological benefits
Fishing brings relaxation, peace of mind, and connection with nature.
FISHING METHODS
• Fishing rod (angling): A traditional method that relies on skill and patience.
• Nets: One of the fastest and most productive methods, especially in commercial fishing.• Traps: Used in some marine or river environments to catch specific types of fish.
Modern technology has made fishing easier and more efficient, saving time and effort.
RISKS TO BE AWARE OF
• Drowning due to waves, currents, or poor weather.
• Marine animals may pose a danger in some areas.
• Sudden changes in weather that may threaten safety.
Therefore, it is important to take necessary precautions and always adhere to safety measures.
Fishing is a permitted activity that combines benefit and enjoyment. It requires skill, good planning, and awareness of risks. If a person follows the divine guidance and takes the right precautions, it becomes one of the beneficial deeds that bring goodness in this life.
