Allah the Almighty said:
“And indeed, you are of a great moral character.” (Surah Al-Qalam: 4)
‘Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) was asked about the character of the Prophet ﷺ, and she said:
“His character was the Qur’an.”
1. Truthfulness and Trustworthiness
He was known among his people for truthfulness and honesty.
He never lied or betrayed.
2. Mercy
He was merciful to young and old, men and women, animals, and even enemies.
Allah said:
“And We have not sent you except as a mercy to the worlds.” (Al-Anbiya: 107)
3. Humility
He would sit among the poor, accept invitations, visit the sick, and avoid arrogance.
4. Forbearance and Forgiveness
He would forgive even when capable of punishing.
He said on the day of the conquest of Mecca:
“Go, for you are free.”
5. Patience
He was patient in calling to Allah, and endured harm, hunger, siege, and tests without complaint.
6. Generosity
He was the most generous of people, giving without fear of poverty.
7. Modesty
He said:
“Modesty brings nothing but good.”
8. Justice
He was just among all people, near and far, and never favored anyone unfairly.
9. Keeping Promises
He fulfilled his promises and remembered his companions with goodness.
10. Gentleness
He loved gentleness in all matters and said:
“Gentleness is not found in anything except that it beautifies it.”
11. Compassion for His Ummah
He cared deeply for his nation and feared hardship for them.
Allah said:
“There has certainly come to you a Messenger from among yourselves;
grievous to him is what you suffer;
he is concerned over you and to the believers is kind and merciful.” (At-Tawbah: 128)
12. Good Social Conduct
He smiled at people, joked without lying, and said:
“Your smile to your brother is charity.”
13. Cheerfulness
He often smiled, and laughter was usually a gentle smile.
14. Asceticism (Zuhd)
He lived a simple life and did not cling to worldly things.
Sometimes months would pass without cooking in his home.
15. Worship and Devotion
He would stand in prayer until his feet swelled.
When asked, he said:
“Should I not be a grateful servant?”
Conclusion
The Prophet ﷺ was a perfect example in noble character.
He combined humility, mercy, generosity, and patience, and was the best example for the believers in all aspects of life.
Allah said:
“Indeed, in the Messenger of Allah you have an excellent example
for whoever hopes in Allah and the Last Day and remembers Allah often.” (Al-Ahzab: 21)
