Jinn, in Islam, are real beings created by God. They differ from humans in their origin and nature, and they exist in a hidden realm parallel to our world.
🔹 What are the Jinn?
Jinn are invisible beings created from fire, as Allah says:
“And He created the jinn from a smokeless flame of fire” (Qur’an 55:15)
They are called “jinn” because they are hidden from human sight. (dorar.net)
🔹 Their Main Characteristics
-
They are invisible to humans by default
-
They have intellect and free will, like humans (dorar.net)
-
Among them are believers and disbelievers (dorar.net)
-
They eat, drink, and reproduce (dorar.net)
-
They live in a hidden world parallel to the human world
🔹 Why Were They Created?
Like humans, they were created to worship Allah alone:
“And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me” (Qur’an 51:56) (Islam-QA)
🔹 Can They Harm Humans?
Some jinn may harm humans, especially devils among them, but:
-
Their harm occurs only by Allah’s permission
-
Protection comes through remembrance of Allah, recitation of the Qur’an, and reliance upon Him
🔹 Can We See Them?
The default is that we cannot see them:
“Indeed, he sees you, he and his tribe, from where you do not see them” (Qur’an 7:27) (Islam-QA)
🔹 First: Categories of Jinn
Jinn are not all the same. They include:
1) The Righteous (Believers)
-
Worship Allah and obey Him
-
Do not harm people
“Among us are the righteous, and among us are otherwise” (Qur’an 72:11) (dorar.net)
2) The Disobedient and Disbelievers
-
Disobey Allah
-
Some may cause harm and corruption
3) In Terms of Ability and Form
It is reported in authentic narrations that jinn are of different types:
-
Some fly through the air
-
Some appear like snakes and dogs
-
Some travel and settle
(Islam-QA)
🔹 Second: The Difference Between Jinn and Devils
-
Jinn: a general term that includes all of them
-
Devils (Shayateen): the rebellious, evil ones among the jinn (and may also include evil humans)
📌 Rule:
Every devil is from the jinn (in origin), but not every jinn is a devil.
🔹 Third: How to Protect Ourselves Practically
🛡️ 1) Daily Remembrance (Adhkar)
-
Morning and evening supplications
-
Supplications before sleep and upon waking
🛡️ 2) Recitation of the Qur’an
-
Especially:
-
Ayat al-Kursi before النوم
-
Reciting Surah Al-Baqarah in the home
-
🛡️ 3) Mentioning Allah’s Name
-
When entering the home
-
Before eating
-
When entering the bathroom
🛡️ 4) Avoiding Sins
-
Sin weakens spiritual protection
-
Remembrance strengthens it
🛡️ 5) Reliance on Allah Without Excessive Fear
-
A Muslim should not live in constant fear
-
Rather, they trust Allah and take proper means
🔸 Important Note
Many people exaggerate the topic of jinn until they live in constant fear — and this is incorrect.
✔️ The correct balance:
-
We believe in their existence
-
We protect ourselves with remembrance
-
We live our lives normally, trusting in Allah
