Introduction
In recent years, the world has undergone rapid changes, and the Muslim community has been tested with severe trials—wars, division, poverty, disease, and social instability. These challenges have weakened hearts, shaken values, and caused many to prioritize worldly life over faith and the Hereafter.
These conditions are not new. They were foretold in the teachings of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who warned of increasing trials before the end of time.
Signs of Increasing Trials
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The Hour will not be established until chaos becomes widespread." They asked, “What is chaos?” He said: “Killing, killing.” [1]
He also said:
"The nations will soon gather against you as people gather around a dish." When asked whether Muslims would be few, he replied:
"No, you will be many, but like foam on the surface of a flood. Weakness will be placed in your hearts."
They asked, “What is this weakness?” He said:
"Love of this world and dislike of death." [2]
Today, these signs are visible. Conflicts have increased, injustice has spread, and trust between people has weakened. Many struggle to maintain their faith in a rapidly changing world.
Holding Onto Faith in Difficult Times
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) described the difficulty of remaining steadfast:
"There will come a time when the one who remains patient upon his faith will be like one holding onto burning coals." [3]
He also said:
"A man will pass by a grave and wish to be in the place of the one buried." [4]
These statements highlight the intensity of trials and the emotional and spiritual challenges people may face.
What Is the Path to Salvation?
So how can a believer remain steadfast?
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave a clear and practical answer:
"Hasten to do good deeds before trials come like dark pieces of the night. A person may be a believer in the morning and a disbeliever in the evening, or the reverse, selling his religion for something of this world." [5]
This guidance emphasizes urgency—do not delay righteous actions.
Practical Steps to Stay Steadfast
To remain firm during times of trials, focus on consistent acts of worship and discipline:
-
Perform the five daily prayers on time
-
Read the Quran regularly and maintain a daily portion
-
Increase remembrance of Allah and seek forgiveness often
-
Give charity, even in small amounts
-
Maintain family ties and show kindness to parents
-
Surround yourself with righteous people
-
Avoid environments that weaken faith
These actions strengthen the heart and protect it from doubt and spiritual decline.
Conclusion
Time passes quickly, and trials continue to intensify. The only path to safety is to turn sincerely to Allah and hold firmly to faith.
True success is not in avoiding trials, but in remaining steadfast through them.
So turn to Allah, hold firmly to your faith, and remain constant in good deeds—perhaps you will be among those who are saved.
